Manly, Stewart and Finaldi. Here to Help.

We are California’s leading law firm representing victims of sexual abuse, harassment, and assaults by teachers, coaches, doctors, hospitals, and medical clinics. We have recovered more than $300 million in settlements and jury verdicts in behalf of children abused in schools. We are also the lead attorneys representing Olympic athletes and victims of former US Olympic Women’s Gymnastics Team Doctor Larry Nassar and secured $880 million in settlements for our clients. We were the lead attorneys helping sexual abuse victims of former gynecologist George Tyndall recover $852 million from the University of Southern California. In each of these cases we have helped victims and families get justice by conducting a thorough investigation of the perpetrator and the organization that employed the preparator. We can keep the case 100 percent confidential. and protect your identity if that is preferred. We also help take the necessary action to hold the abuser accountable, and any other party that knew about the abuse but did not disclose it. Call anytime to schedule your free confidential consultation with one of our attorneys or use our online contact form.

Minimizing the assault can be a coping strategy. It might include survivors thinking that their abuse was not as bad as someone else's.

Sexual assault is a betrayal of trust. Most survivors find it difficult to trust other people as well as themselves and their own perceptions. On the other hand, they may place an inappropriate level of trust in everyone.

Many feel that they do not deserve support, that they are tainted, and that others will not want to be their friends or lovers. A survivor's culture and (lack of) community connections can, at times, compound feelings of isolation.

Signs Of Abuse

We can describe formal measures anyone can take to challenge sexual assault. The problem comes when people with power don't take victims seriously when they report sexual assault. Even when employees of institutions report that something is wrong, often the institution will move to protect its own interests and profits, at the expense of the victim's rights and safety.

There are many common reactions to sexual violence. Not all survivors of sexual violence are the same, nor will any act of sexual violence affect two people in the same way. There is no wrong or right way to feel or react.

California school districts have faced numerous lawsuits over the decades for sexual abuse claims. As a result, from Sacramento to San Diego, victims of sexual abuse are settling lawsuits with school districts that failed their students, costing taxpayers millions in the past seven years. The experienced school sexual abuse attorneys at Manly, Stewart & Finaldi have recovered more than $300 million on behalf of their clients in these landmark cases:

Los Angeles County- $262 million +: Los Angeles Unified School District settled  81 child sexual abuse claims resulting from the sexual abuse of students at Miramonte Elementary School by former teacher Mark Berndt for $142 Million. This is the largest child sex abuse settlement against any public school district in the United States. San Bernardino County- $42 Million: Redlands Unified school district in San Bernardino County has paid more than $42 million to former students claiming sexual abuse by teachers since 2016. Alleged perpetrators include Kevin Kirkland, Laura Whitehurst, Brian Townsley, and Joel Koonce.

Orange County- $14 Million +12 female  Orange County water polo players settled a lawsuit alleging sexual abuse by a high school coach for $13.85 million.  A 16-year-old Valley High School student in Santa Ana was allegedly sexually abused by her sociology teacher nearly four decades ago. This was filed under California's AB 218 three-year lookback window and settled recently for seven figures.

Riverside County- $6.2 Million: Former Liberty Elementary School technology aide Fernando Figueroa admitted that he “committed lewd and lascivious acts upon 11 different victims on different dates between 2014 and February 8, 2017." Cases on behalf of 3 of his victims were settled for $6.2 million. Other cases are pending.

San Diego County- $3.6 Million: The prestigious private Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad has settled cases on behalf of 3 former cadets who alleged sexual abuse by the school’s headmaster and staff. Other cases are pending.

Enrique Rodriguez Valladares, a third-grade teacher at Bowling Green Chacon Language and Science Academy in southern Sacramento, California, faces eight counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14. Valladares allegedly had multiple victims, male and female, during his time as a teacher between August 2017 to June 2019.

In one case, it is alleged that Valladares sexually abused a nine-year-old girl in his classroom with the doors closed. It is alleged that the abuse took place on a weekly basis throughout the 2018- 2019 school year.

The Sacramento City Unified School District where the teacher worked has reportedly launched an internal investigation into the matter. We are asking anyone that was involved with Enrique Rodriguez Valladares' actions to come forward to seek justice.
